Andalucia the Jewel of Spain
Andalucia the southernmost region of Spain is renowned for a wonderful climate, where along the coast temperatures rarely drop into single figures, even in the wintertime. Inland temperatures are a little more extreme, with 40 degrees regularly reached in the summer months.
The Andalucian region of Spain is steeped in the culture of the Moors. Cities like Granada and Seville having stunning architecture such as the Alhambra Palace which attracts visitors from all around the world.
Marbella on the Costa del Sol coastline is the where the rich and famous congregate to enjoy the yachts, designer shops and glitzy nightlife. However, if you are looking for a budget holiday, Marbella is probably not the destination for you.
To the east of Marbella lies the historic city of Malaga which is the location for the major airport in the Costa del Sol region. Malaga airport is a 15 minute drive from the city centre, and there are good rail links from the airport to Marbella, Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Gibraltar.
Seville is around a 2 hour drive from Malaga, and has the most stunning architecture in the region, but in summer time the heat is intense, so visitors are advised not to visit in July and August. Driving in the Andalucia is relatively easy, with the A-7 (E15) motorway providing easy access from Malaga airport to all the major Costa del Sol resorts.
The nightlife in Malaga is very lively at the weekends, but can be quiet in the week and on Sunday. There are a huge number of bars and clubs in the old town area, some have traditional flamenco performers at the weekends. The tapas bars which can be found throughout the old town streets offer a taste of authentic Spain, and many bars have flamenco musicians and dancers.
